As every employer in California knows, the start of each calendar year brings with it new laws, regulations, and cases that impact not only what the requirements are for employers, but impact how the employer conducts itself on a day-to-day basis. SEAC is excited to present this workshop designed to help California employers with their annual “housekeeping” and getting ready for a successful 2016. SEAC’s human resources and legal experts will provide their insight and expertise with:
- Updates to employee policies and procedures to address the ever-changing landscape of laws, and to address employers’ ever-changing workforce;
- Strategies and requirements for employee hiring, including “onboarding” and new hire paperwork and contracts, and employee separations; and
- Knowing the new statutes and regulations, as well as cases, that employers must comply with and that impact how employers comply with existing laws in their day-to-day interactions with employees.
In addition, for employers looking for a convenient way to keep their supervisors up-to-date on their AB1825 mandatory sexual harassment training, SEAC is offering training in the afternoon.

Vida L. Thomas, Lykisha D. Beasley, Mary Horst, Meagan Bainbridge, Janelle Arsich
Vida L. Thomas serves as Of Counsel to the Firm’s Labor and Employment Group. As an AV-rated attorney who has practiced employment law for over 20 years, she heads up the Firm’s workplace investigations unit. She began her career at Kronick Moskovitz as an employment litigator for seven years and then co-founded Carlsen Thomas, LLP, a boutique employment law firm providing top-notch workplace investigations and employee training throughout California for 13 years. Also, as the Co-Chair of the Association of Workplace Investigators (“AWI”) Committee on Best Practices, Vida helped develop AWI’s “best practices” framework for workplace investigations. Vida advises employers regarding all aspects of employment law and human resources management, serves as an expert witness in state and federal employment lawsuits, and mediates litigation and non-litigation matters.
Lykisha D. Beasley is a Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice Employment and Administrative Mandate Section. Representing the governing agencies of the State of California, Ms. Beasley litigates cases arising out of common employment issues as well as those characterized by complex circumstances. In addition to litigating cases in State Court, Federal Court, and quasi-judicial forums, Ms. Beasley also provides advice and counsel to the employing agencies.
Mary Horst is a Deputy Attorney General in the Employment & Administrative Mandate section of the California Department of Justice where she handles some of the most complex employment litigation defense cases for both DOJ and its clients. She started in the EAM section in Los Angeles in 1993 and has also worked throughout the state. In addition, during her tenure with the State of California, Ms. Horst was an Administrative Law Judge with the State Personnel Board for nine years.
Meagan Bainbridge is an associate of the Labor and Employment and Litigation groups where she practices in both state and federal courts, and before various administrative agencies. Meagan regularly defends employers against individual and class-action employment claims for breach of contract, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, unfair business practices, violation of wage and hour laws, as well as numerous other tort and statutory employment law causes of action. Additionally, she provides advice and counsel to employers concerning their workplace policies, practices, and personnel decisions. Substantive areas of expertise include California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Title VII, the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the California Labor Code. Meagan is a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators (AOWI) and is available to conduct independent workplace investigations. She also regularly speaks on a wide-range of employment-related topics and is available to conduct trainings on many workplace topics, including AB 1825 sexual harassment prevention training.
Prior to joining the firm in 2010, Meagan worked for a Sacramento-based boutique law firm specializing in all aspects of labor and employment law. Meagan earned her J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law, in 2005. She also attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she earned her B.A. in Law and Society in 2001.
Janelle Arsich has over 12 years of experience in the Human Resources field as well as several years in business administration. Ms. Arsich’s focus is on employee relations, performance management, payroll, benefits administration, employee handbooks and seminar logistics, to name a few of the many services she provides to our clients.
Janelle’s favorite aspect of human resources management is in the creation and implementation of an HR presence in small companies. She focuses on understanding how to best support the company’s needs based on their business needs, establishing goals, and teaming with management to meet those goals
