Dear EAC Chairs, Coordinators and Members,
I hope you were fortunate to attend our one-day CEAC Conference on May 13, 2011, in Sacramento, California. EDD Chief Deputy Director Pam Harris graciously accepted our invitation to kick-off our conference. Ms. Harris requested the CEAC and EAC members to help resolve the Unemployment Insurance Fund insolvency issues.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the online survey at the end of June to get your feedback about this year's conference. We will be looking at the results and studying the data to plan for the future.
The board was saddened by the sudden loss in March of our long standing board member, Parliamentarian, Nominations/Bylaws committee chairperson, and beloved friend Teresa Jackson, fondly referred to as "Mother Teresa." Teresa's daughters Vernettie and Barbara along with granddaughter Jackie came all the way from Porterville to join us at the conference. The CEAC presented Teresa's family with two beautiful plaques in memory of Teresa.
On a brighter note, I would like to introduce you to our new Parliamentarian. William Betley is the current Chairperson of Inland Valleys EAC. He is a partner with Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo and practices in all areas of employment law, including unlawful, harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, employee classification, and wage and hour.
In keeping with our commitment to operate efficiently and prudently, the CEAC board voted on the following:
The CEAC Board has been conducting business via conference calls every other month. Not only does this help keep our costs down, but it allows the board to stay connected and stay on top of pressing matters. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge EDD's part in providing conference call capability for the board's bi-monthly meetings. Thank you, EDD, for your continued support!
If you are interested in hosting the 2012 CEAC conference and showcasing your EAC and local area, please contact me at (951) 955-3381 or Naomi Hamamoto at (916) 654-9295. If no EAC steps forward by September 2011 to host next year's conference, there is a high possibility that we will not have a conference.
I am open to any ideas and suggestions that you may have that will assist our organization to conduct business more effectively and efficiently. Please call or e-mail me at and let me know of your ideas, suggestions, or concerns.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your local EAC and the CEAC.
Sincerely,
Laura Harris
